The Paleo diet has gone from being a rather niche eating philosophy to something that almost everyone has heard about. When done correctly, the paleo diet can indeed help you drop unwanted weight, improve your health and let you regain a certain vitality in your life that isn’t usually associated with the term “diet”.
But as with so many things in life, it can also get a bit complicated. New converts to a Paleo eating style are easy to spot: their skin looks great, they’re full of energy and they’re preaching the good news about how much better they’re doing – while still eating bacon, no less.
Speak to seasoned Paleo eaters and you’ll get a more sober perspective, though. The truth is, there are no shortcuts to health and wellness, and this includes the Paleo diet, no matter how ideal it may be for modern man. Some slightly inconvenient truths:
- Not everyone loses weight on the Paleo diet. In a Paleo utopia, everyone is lean and strong and lovely. In the real world, some of use have genetic limitations to being thin. We can be healthy, sure, but nobody promised what that would actually look like. A diet alone will not combat the effects of natural aging or inactivity. And if you’re heavy set and prone to being on the larger end, even your best body may be on the plump side.
